Mode7 were interested in working alongside a team who were able to provide expert guidance within Digital Marketing, and wanted to experiment with Meta Advertising across Facebook and Instagram Reels, as well as getting a better understanding of the opportunities TikTok provides.
Our goal here was to educate and demonstrate to the the indie game studio how you could utilise the various channels, placements and optimisations strategies to deliver a successful (revenue and / or wishlists) paid media campaign.
Building up from a combination of old and new accounts, we set up access and invested into media across the relevant platforms, adapting existing creatives to generate new variations that allowed us to A/B test specific creative factors such as; duration, format, style and content, in order to break down and better understand what the core factors for success were within the creatives.
We optimised the campaign consistently throughout, taking into account what comments or engagement we were seeing across each channel and then refining the targeting to deliver a higher ROI in response. With over 4 million engagements to our ads across TikTok and Meta, we generated over 40k high value users to the Steam Store Page.
Each platform varies with its individual strengths and campaign styles, with some leading the way with strong engagement and conversion rates, whilst others provide a space for large waves of exposure, but come with a much less reliable conversion rate. Handling each platform in its own way is crucial to success, there is no one strategy fits all!
For example: We noted that there was some commentary around pricing on TikTok, indicating a need to shift the audience targeting towards a slightly older demographic. We made this optimisation and the publisher reported an uplift in sales on Steam shortly after.
